Magnetic Poetry
Magnetic Poetry began with a songwriter named Dave Kapell who was struggling with writer’s block. As his written word snippets blew away in a sneeze, he had a clever idea: glue them to magnets and stick them on a pizza tin, eventually moving them to his refrigerator. Visitors started rearranging the words into impromptu poems, and the creative spark was born. After selling 100 kits in just three hours at a Minneapolis craft fair, the idea took off.
Today, Magnetic Poetry is a small, family-run company headed by Dave, his sister Becky, and a close-knit team. They continue to manufacture and ship their magnet kits from Minneapolis, producing everything in the U.S. The brand has expanded from the Original Kit to include children’s editions, foreign language versions, and over 100 themed kits—selling more than three million kits and over one billion magnetic word tiles. Magnetic Poetry has even made its way into pop culture, appearing on TV shows and movies over the years.
